Gone
But what happens when this ceases?
When the black woman is gone?
Shajuana Henry
For so long she’s defended her brothers without question
Hoisted signs and shouted their names
But what happens when this ceases?
When the black woman is gone?
When her magic disappears?
Pandemonium ensues…
Hell breaks loose from its shackles
They expect that she extend herself for men
Who wouldn’t lift a finger, much less give a hand
She’s reminded of a bigger picture that has always kept her out of focus
The grand scheme of things is as follows:
She must accept sacrifice as the standard.
She must put her life on the front lines.
She must give until she’s gone.

“She must accept sacrifice as standard” what a powerful poem.
