A Woman Shedding Pain

by Dawn

All he saw were good-enough thighs
And a pretty face.
He didn’t see the peace within my eyes,
What a shame.
My voice was soft, his words were smooth
INSTANTLY he knew…I wasn’t wise.
To my surprise, I was left to find that I found nothing.
But Something.
Something was missing,
He was a thief in the sunset.
They’re more dangerous than the ones at night because you never see them coming.
And looking back was like a romantic haunting.
But I am the answered prayer of my mother, and her mother, and her mother, and her mother, and her mother, and her mother, and her mother, and her mother, and her mother.
With all this magic behind me
I was bound 2 recover.
This is what love looks like after pain
This is what light looks like after rain.
I went IN-FUCKING-SANE
And that lead me to a piece in my mind
Where I found a peace of mind
So when they say “you have a peaceful looking face.”
I say ” I made peace with the things I left behind.”
He couldn’t see the peace within my eyes
What a shame.
That made me realize
I am an onion.
